| Port Eliot Lit Fest 2005 22nd - 24th July It is difficult to do justice to Port Eliot's setting and natural beauty. The extensive gardens which include a maze, a quarry and a bowling green provide a perfect setting for this innovative event. Situated on an estuary in Cornwall and easily reached by road or rail, it has been the home of the Eliots for hundreds of years and in the 1980s was the site of the extraordinary Elephant Fayre.
From Exeter - A38 to Plymouth, across The Tamar Bridge into Cornwall. After 10 miles turn LEFT at Tideford onto the B3249 to St.Germans and follow the signs. By
mainline train to Liskeard then take a taxi 8 miles to St.Germans.Local

House Tours This year there are two kinds of tours: one internal accompanied by a performed reading with author/narrator and an actor; and the other is an external tour. The latter will detail the ancient structure of the house’s metamorphose from hovel to stately home over the past 1,000 years or so. This will be conducted by a leading architectural historian with a scholarly knowledge of the works of Sir John Soane. To make reservations for the internal tour, please go to the Site Office. Names will be taken on a first come, first served basis. For the external tour, see timings in the Elsewhere section of this programme, the meeting point will be on the North side of the church. Throughout the festival in a tunnel adjoining the main house the Artytechs Parlour will host Chthonic Tales an intriguing collision of art installations, technology, mystery & magic. Children’s Area This is organised by the St Germans carnival committee, which will provide supervised games, workshops and rehearsals for a children’s performance on the Bowling Green on Sunday morning. Please note: this service is neither a babysitting agency nor a creche for tots. Taxis To get you to and from the site if you are staying in the area, find local taxi firm numbers posted in the Site Office, in the Bar and on the blackboards by the Bowling Green. The Retreat A place to rest and be pampered. In two separate teepees in this beautiful garden you will find Lilian Jones, masseur, and also the beauty parlour where you can have a facial, manicure and pedicure and other delights. Make reservations at the individual teepees. Avcom
